Before you arrive
Prioritise these:
- register with the University – complete this as soon as you have received the invitation email
- upload your picture for your ID card once you have completed registration
- find accommodation if you don't already have a place to stay
- read the doctoral induction webpages
- read the starting your doctoral research degree webpages
- Contact your supervisor and arrange a date and time for your first meeting
Other things to consider:
- make sure your vaccinations are up to date
- let us know if you have a disability so we can provide any support you may need
- plan out your budget
- plan your travel arrangements
- visit the Students' Union (SU) website for the latest information on Welcome Week and to join SU Groups
International students may also want to:
- arrange visas and important documents
- apply for travel insurance (to cover your journey to the UK)
- book a free airport transfer to Bath if starting in September
- find out what to do at the UK border
- learn about health services in the UK
- register for our Living in a New Culture orientation programme
- ensure that you have a bank card that covers international purchases (eg can be used in the UK) or set up a temporary account with an online bank to cover your first few weeks in Bath
- learn about International Students at the SU and Faith & Cultural Societies
- apply for a SIM card and unlock your phone

Prioritise:
- set up your IT including email, antivirus, purchase IT equipment and assistive technology
- collect your library card
- connect to the network and Wifi
- attend your department induction session
- book onto Doctoral College induction events
- meet with your lead supervisor and use the checklist as a guide for your discussion
- find out who your Doctoral Programme Administrator is
- check you can access your student record in SAMIS and update your contact details
- register with a doctor
- access MyDoctoralDevelopment and complete a training needs analysis
- watch a video on getting started with MyDoctoralDevelopment
- if you have funding managed by the University, sign and return maintenance forms
- download and register on the University SafeZone app

- get your bearings with a virtual campus tour
- consider joining societies that interest you
International students may also want to:
In the first few weeks
- meet with your supervisory team and use the checklist for first meetings
- attend any opportunities to meet other researchers in your department
- meet with your peer mentor (if applicable)
- complete compulsory training
- introduce yourself and your project to your research group and office mates
- if you would like the opportunity to teach, book onto training
- activate your free Sports Pass
International students may also want to:
