Welcome to our Living in a New Culture (LINC) programme. LINC provides information and support to all new international students. Some of you may have never been to the UK before. Others of you may be very familiar with life here. Whatever your experience, join us for LINC to get familiar with life in Bath and the UK.
All our sessions will be held live either online or in-person. Please note all session timings are given in UK time (BST).

Come along to have a chat with our Student Ambassadors and ask any questions you might have.
We will share important and practical information to help you settle into life in the UK. Each session will be online and cover different topics lasting 30-40 minutes. These will be recorded and available to view after the session. Information is correct at time of recording.
What to Bring
Join our student ambassadors for a discussion about what to bring to university. We’ll cover some suggestions of items to pack, what not to bring, and what items you could buy once you’ve arrived in the UK.
Money and Finances
Join us and the Student Money Advice team as we discuss money and finances. Find out about banking in the UK and how to set up bank accounts. We’ll also give information about how to access more support, budgeting and some tip money tips.
In this session we will discuss healthcare in the UK. Find out more about the UK healthcare system and how to register with the doctors. We’ll also discuss vaccinations, sexual health and provide some more Covid-19 information.
Food and Drink
Join our student ambassadors as they discuss classic British dishes and drinks. They’ll give some top tips on where to shop for food and drink in Bath. This includes international food stores where you may be able to find familiar foods from home, as well as bars, pubs and clubs.
In this session you can join our student ambassadors and The Wellbeing team. We’ll discuss typical things to expect from UK culture and culture shock. The Wellbeing team will share some top tips to adapt and how to get support if you need it. Our student ambassadors will share their own experiences of adjusting to new cultures.
Get involved with the SU
Join the SU Community Officer, Meg, and find out what the SU can do for international students. Learn more about what the SU do, how to get involved and what sort of clubs, societies and events are available.
Safety and Welfare
Join us for this session where we introduce the University Security team. They will discuss safety at the University and in the UK and give some tips to stay safe. We will also discuss the ‘Be The Change’ campaign, and dealing with discrimination. Learn about where to find help for mental health, financial, and disability support.
The city of Bath
In this session our student ambassadors will give you an introduction to the city of Bath and beyond. Find out some of the best places to explore in Bath and the UK. You’ll also learn about how to get around Bath and use public transport in the UK.
Join us in person as we welcome you to Bath. We will recap some useful information you need to know and you’ll have an opportunity to ask questions. If you’ve attended all our information sessions then you don’t need to attend this session unless you want to ask any questions.
After the Welcome session join The SU for their World Café. This is a great opportunity for international students to meet other students from around the world. Grab a drink and get to know other students before the semester begins.
