Pastoral Support and Safeguarding Training for experienced Academic Staff
Pastoral Support and Safeguarding Training for Personal Tutors and Doctoral Supervisors is for experienced Academic staff and aims to equip staff with the Knowledge and tools to better support our students. Topics include:
- student wellbeing
- responding to student disclosures
- safeguarding
- professional boundaries
- referrals and signposting.
Pastoral Support and Safeguarding training is now mandatory for Personal Tutors and Doctoral Supervisors, with colleagues needing to complete a session by July 2024. Below are the current bookable dates, with further dates added regularly.

Pastoral Support and Safeguarding Training for Probationary Academic Staff
Probationary academic staff are expected to complete a number of core sessions as part of the Pathways to HEA Fellowship (PHEAF) scheme.
Student Support and Safeguarding (015) is a core session which aims to equip staff with the knowledge and tools to better support our students. Topics include: student wellbeing, responding to student disclosures, professional boundaries, referrals and signposting.
Probationary staff can book onto a CORE 015 session by contacting workforce development.
How to book on to a course
Staff can book onto a course by visiting the CLT Hub and booking the relevant session.
Pastoral Support and Safeguarding Training for staff in Professional and Technical Services
This course is aimed at staff who work within professional and/or technical services who are student facing and may provide pastoral support from time to time. The training is recommended for all student facing staff members and aims to equip staff with the knowledge and tools to better support our students. Topics include:
- student wellbeing
- responding to student disclosures
- safeguarding
- professional boundaries
- referrals and signposting.

Safeguarding Training
Our 'Safeguarding in HE' module provides an overview of safeguarding for under 18s and adults who may be at risk of harm. This training is recommended for all staff, and mandatory for the following staff: Department designated safeguarding leads, Department deputy designated safeguarding leads, Staff who regularly interact with under 18s in the course of their work, Staff who will regularly interact with adults at risk in the course of their work.
How to access the course
The training module, entitled 'Safeguarding in HE', can be accessed by visiting the Mandatory training for staff webpages, and then logging in with your usual username and password.
