Terms of reference

Health, Wellbeing and Support for Study (HWSS) Stage 2 and Stage 3 Panels are convened to exercise the functions prescribed in the HWSS Policy and Procedure.

Procedural rules

Membership term for Stage 3 Panels is for two years. Panel members may be given the option to renew their appointment at the end of the term.

No member of an HWSS Panel shall be a part of any subsequent Appeals or Complaints process.

Any outcome from a Stage 3 panel meeting will need to be approved by a panel majority, with the Chair responsible for the proceedings.

Membership of Panel

A Stage 2 Panel is made up of:

  • Chair: Deputy Director (Community, Response and Resolution), or nominee

Normally in attendance:

  • Secretary (usually a member of the Student Casework Team)
  • Advisor (individual/s with relevant expertise depending on the nature of the case)
  • Other University staff depending on the nature of the case, as agreed by the Chair. This will usually include the Director of Studies/Teaching/Programmes, Head of Department, or another appropriate representative from the student’s academic department

The Stage 3 Panel is made up of:

  • Chair: An appointed Stage 3 Chair, typically a Pro Vice-Chancellor or a University Director.
  • The Director of Studies/Teaching/Programmes or Head of Department from the student’s academic department
  • A trained, appointed HWSS Panel Member (from a different academic department, where applicable)

Normally in attendance:

  • Secretary (usually a member of the Student Casework Team)
  • Advisor (individual/s with relevant expertise depending on the nature of the case)
  • Other University staff, depending on the nature of the case, as agreed by the Chair

Quorum

  • Stage 2 - the Chair
  • Stage 3 - the Chair plus two members
