The Black Students' Network works across the University with departments such as Careers, Advancement Team (who work with our alumni) and Departmental Placement teams to provide a range of professional development opportunities for students of Black heritage at Bath.
Mentoring via Bath Connection
Many Bath alumni volunteer as mentors via our online platform Bath Connection, offering informal careers advice and guidance to current students and new graduates.
By registering and then visiting the eMentoring section, you can connect with alumni who can provide help with things like CVs, LinkedIn profiles, interview preparation, and insights into specific industries. You can also use the “Black graduate experience” filter under support available to find alumni willing to share perspectives from their own career journeys.
Career Conversations
Our BSN Career Conversations host Black Bath alumni sharing candid insights into their roles and career journeys. Developed in collaboration with staff, students and alumni at Bath, these sessions are open to all current students of Black heritage, across all years and courses. Our speakers will explore topics such as:
- how they entered their field and made career decisions
- their experiences as Black graduates
- what their day-to-day role involves
- highlights and challenges in their career journey
- top tips and advice
Each session includes time for questions and open discussion.

Preparing for placement or your Year Abroad
The BSN has worked with Bath students, staff and alumni to create some resources for students preparing for placement and the year abroad.
Our upcoming Preparing for placement or year abroad event brings together students from across the years to share their questions around and experiences of studying or working abroad, or undertaking a placement in the UK or abroad, and explore the ways in which race might impact on your decision-making and experiences.
The event follows the research project of Bath Graduate Keji Kamoju, and her dissertation: ‘Travelling While Black’ and Contesting Whiteness in the Year Abroad'.
