Wellbeing
We believe the health and well-being of all our students is very important. We provide an extensive range of services to support you while you are studying.
Medical and dental
The University Medical and Dental Practice are located together on the main campus. You will need to register with both to use their services.
The Medical Centre provides a range of NHS services and the majority of patients are part of the University community.
The University Dental Practice is only open to staff and students of the University.
Counselling
Chaplaincy
The University Chaplaincy Centre, in the heart of campus, offers support to people of all faith and none.
We also provide prayer rooms with washing facilities for Muslim prayers.
You will find a number of active Christian, Muslim and Jewish student societies on campus.
The Student Health and Wellbeing Team can help you get the most out of your university experience through individual counselling and group-based workshops.
You may also wish to contact Nightline, which is a confidential listening and support service, run by students for students.
Disability advice
Student Disability Advice provides confidential advice, guidance and information services to students with disabilities/impairments, long term health conditions and specific learning differences.
The Students' Union supports a student-run group called ACCESS for all students with any sort of disability, medical condition or learning difference - or with an interest in learning more about them.
Campus access
We have undertaken a major programme of work to develop campus access for disabled people. We recommend that you visit the campus in advance of starting your course to get a better idea. You can also view our campus accessibility map.
Peer-to-peer support
The Students' Union supports several student-run groups.
- The Global Group promotes integration between international and British students.
- The LGBT Group represents LGBT students.
- The International Office has an ‘Amity’ group which matches people with a British student to help with the first few weeks and months when everything seems unfamiliar.
- There's also a group for partners and families of international students.
- The Mature Students Group organises events, offers support and advice to older-than-average students.
Childcare
We offer excellent childcare facilities at our Westwood Nursery for students with children. The nursery accepts children of students and staff from the age of 6 months to school entry age. There is also a Student Parents Group for students who are parents or who have caring responsibilities.
