Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarship

If you are an asylum seeker living in the UK, you may be eligible for this scholarship to cover your fees and a bursary of up to £5000.

About the Marie Morley Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarship

Find out about the Marie Morley Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarship and how it can pay for your studies and other costs.

The Sanctuary Scholarship has been made possible by generous donations from the University of Bath UCU (the trade union for academic, academic-related and professional services staff) and the University of Bath Alumni Fund.

For the 2024/25 academic year, the University of Bath will offer one Undergraduate Scholarship.

Scholarships are for full time undergraduate applicants who are seeking asylum in the UK, and who are not able to access UK Government Student Finance (tuition fee loans or maintenance loans/grants) by virtue of their immigration status.

We will cover your fees and help with additional costs with a bursary of up to £5000. This could include for example books, IT equipment, travel costs or other costs that help you to study effectively.

You'll also get personal one to one support to help identify and overcome barriers to achievement on your course.

Selection process

Selection will be based on the information submitted in your scholarship application and other contextual information, as provided in your application to study at Bath.

A panel of senior staff from the University and Students’ Union will select applicants for interview and will take into consideration a range of criteria. The purpose of the personal statement is to understand why you are in need of the scholarship, and how you would benefit from it. The scholarship panel will consider each student’s statement carefully.

It is important to the scholarship panel to establish:

  • what contributions you have made to school/college life and/or your community
  • why and how you would benefit from receiving the Sanctuary Award

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview following the meeting of the selection panel.

We aim to inform all applicants of the outcome of their scholarship application before the UCAS deadline where you must confirm your firm and second choice.
