Airport coach service FAQs

Information about the coach service from London Heathrow and Bristol airports to the University of Bath.

Do I have to pay for this service?

No, this is a free coach service provided by the University for all students.

Can my family/friends come on the coach with me?

No, unfortunately the seats on our coaches are limited, so we only offer seats to students. Unfortunately, we are unable to take payments for additional seats. Family members or friends should make their own plans to travel to Bath. In exceptional circumstances you may need to travel with a parent, guardian, carer or dependents. For example, due to a medical condition or if you are under 18. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

What are the luggage restrictions?

You can bring one small hand luggage, one laptop bag and two large suitcases. Please check our luggage guide for more information including measurements.

How much time do I need between my flight arrival time and the coach departure?

We recommend that your flight arrives at least two and a half hours before the coach departure time. This allows time to get through border control and collect luggage. Please be aware that additional Covid-19 checks may extend security times. You may also need to change terminals at Heathrow Airport to get to the coach departure point.

Why can’t I see how many spaces are available on the coach?

We always aim to provide a coach for your preferred time, so we collect this information on the booking form. If we see a large demand for certain times we will investigate putting on extra coaches.

Once at the airport where do I meet the coach?

More information about the exact meeting location will be sent to you once you have booked the coach.

What if I have any problems on the day or can’t find the meeting point?

More information about what to do and who to contact will be sent to you once you have booked the coach.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Our meet and greet staff will be monitoring flights and will be aware of any delays. If you are delayed we will try to accommodate you on a later coach. Or, if you’d prefer to travel sooner, we can guide you to public transport options.

How long does the journey take?

On average, the journey from Heathrow to Bath takes two - two and a half hours. The journey from Bristol Airport to Bath takes one - one and a half hours approximately.

Where does the coach stop?

Amber list coaches will stop in Bath City Centre before going onto the University campus. Coaches for returning students will stop in Bath City Centre (unless requested). New students will be taken to the University campus, and onward transport will be provided to those staying in University city centre accommodation. Please check the timetable for more information.

Coaches will drop off in Bath City Centre at Ambury bus stop which is near Bath Spa railway and coach station.

I am staying in University accommodation; will I be taken to my accommodation?

For new students you will be taken to the University campus to collect your accommodation keys. If your accommodation is on campus you will be able to walk there; members of staff will give you directions. If your accommodation is in the city centre the University will provide onward transport.

If you are staying in University quarantine accommodation you will be taken to University campus to collect your keys.

I am staying in private accommodation; how will I get there? Will the coach drop me off?

Please see the coach timetable for drop off points. You will need to arrange your own transport to your accommodation from the drop off point. This could be via bus or taxi.

My flight arrives too late for/after the last coach of the day, what should I do?

If you are travelling from a green list country, you could stay overnight locally and book a coach for the next day. Or you could use public transport to make your own way to campus. If you are travelling from an amber list country you must follow the quarantine rules. Find out more information about how to travel to the place where you're quarantining.

What do I do if I arrive outside of the set dates?

If you arrive outside of the coach dates you need to arrange your own transport to Bath. Please read the UK government’s advice on travelling safely from your point of entry to the UK. If you need to quarantine on arrival to the UK you must follow the quarantine rules. Find out more information about how to travel to the place where you're quarantining.

If I don’t use this service how else can I get to the University?

Take a look at our travel advice about how to get to the city of Bath and the University campus. This includes air travel and public transport options and how to get to campus from the city centre.

What happens if my country changes from red, amber or green status?
