Airport coach service FAQs

Information about the coach service from London Heathrow airport to the University of Bath.

Do I have to pay for this service?

No, this is a free coach service provided by the University for all new students.

Can my family/friends come on the coach with me?

No, unfortunately the seats on our coaches are limited, so we only offer seats to students. Family members or friends should make their own plans to travel to Bath. In exceptional circumstances you may need to travel with a parent, guardian, carer or dependents. For example, due to a medical condition or if you are under 18. If this is the case, please contact us to discuss your needs.

What are the luggage restrictions?

You can bring one small hand luggage, one laptop bag and two large suitcases. Please check our luggage guide for more information including measurements. We suggest trying to pack lightly, as you will need to carry your bags from the coach drop off to your accommodation.

How much time do I need between my flight arrival time and the coach departure?

Please allow at least two and a half hours (150 minutes) between your flight arrival time and coach departure time. This allows time to get through border control, security and collect luggage. You may also need to change terminals at Heathrow Airport to get to the coach departure point.

Once at Heathrow airport where do I meet the coach?

The coach will depart from Heathrow Terminal 2. More information about the exact meeting location will be sent to you once you have booked the coach.

How do I get to Heathrow Terminal 2 from other Heathrow Terminals?

From Terminal 3 you can walk to Terminal 2, and there are free inter-terminal transfers (trains and London Underground) between other Terminals and Terminal 2. Find out more information about travel between terminals at Heathrow Airport.

What if I have any problems on the day or can’t find the meeting point?

More information about what to do and who to contact will be sent to you once you have booked the coach.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Our meet and greet staff will be monitoring flights and will be aware of any delays. If you are delayed we will try to accommodate you on a later coach. Or, if you’d prefer to travel sooner, we can guide you to public transport options.

How long does the journey take?

On average, the journey from Heathrow to Bath takes two - two and a half hours.

Where does the coach stop?

Coaches will stop at collection points for keys to University accommodation and onward transport will be provided to those staying in University residences (including Aquila Court). Those staying in private accommodation will need to make their own arrangements but assistance will be given to find taxis.

I am staying in University accommodation; how will I get my keys? Will I be taken to my accommodation?

Your accommodation keys will be available to collect at the coach drop off points. If your accommodation is on campus, you will be able to walk there from the coach drop off point; members of staff will give you directions. If your accommodation is in the city centre the University will provide onward transport.

I am staying in private accommodation; how will I get there? Will the coach drop me off?

You will need to arrange your own transport to your accommodation from the drop off point. This could be via bus or taxi.

My flight arrives too late for/after the last coach of the day, what should I do?

You could stay overnight at Heathrow airport and book a coach for the next day. Or you could use public transport to make your own way to Bath.

What do I do if I arrive outside of the set dates?

If you arrive outside of the coach dates you need to arrange your own transport to Bath.

If my flight arrives at another airport what do I do?

From London Gatwick, London Stanstead and other London airports, you could use public transport to come to Heathrow airport and meet the University coach service. Or you could use train services or coach and bus services to come straight to Bath.

From Bristol airport, the A4 Air Decker bus service will take you directly from the airport to Bath. You can also catch the Bristol Flyer Airport Express from the airport to Bristol Temple Meads rail station to travel to Bath by train.

From other UK airports we recommend using train services or coach and bus services to come straight to Bath.

If I don’t use this service how else can I get to the University?

Take a look at our travel advice about how to get to the city of Bath and the University campus. This includes air travel and public transport options and how to get to campus from the city centre.
