When attending a session with your Mentor or Study Skills Tutor, having a calm and distraction-free environment makes it much easier to concentrate and get the most out of your time. Many students find that choosing the right space helps them feel more comfortable, stay focused, and engage more confidently in the session.
Unless your worker already has a space on Campus or in the Virgil Building that they have booked directly with the Disability Support Team, it is your responsibility to find a space for your session. There are several spaces available to book around Campus and the Virgil Building that are available to you. Some students find it helpful to book space for their next session at the end of their current session with their worker.
Recommended Places to Meet
Bookings via Libcal
These are a variety of spaces that can be booked across Campus and in the Virgil Building through Libcal. Bookings through Libcal can only be made up to 7 days in advance.
Rooms adjoining the Sensory Room in the Library
There are two small meeting rooms (3.10a and b) adjoining the Sensory Room in the Library that can be booked and are frequently used by students for their support work sessions.
Please note you will need library card access for these rooms, which can be requested from the Disability Support Team or the Security desk in the Library.
Designated rooms for support work sessions
We have two rooms available for you to book on a Wednesday and Friday afternoon during term time if your support work sessions are held at these times. These bookings can be made up until the end of the current term.
As they are general teaching rooms, booking times will be from quarter past the hour. Please make sure your support worker is aware of this when booking. Your booking will also show as being for 50-minutes to align with general teaching booking times, however, your session can last the full hour if needed.
If your support work session is longer than an hour and you would like to book a longer slot, please contact the Disability Support Team.
These spaces are in high demand, so please make sure you cancel any bookings that are no longer needed.
Contact your department
If you are unable to find a space for your support work sessions using the above, you can get in touch with someone in your Faculty/Department using the relevant contact details below. There are no guarantees of a space through this route, but someone in your Faculty/Department may be able to help as a back-up option.
