Securing private accommodation can be challenging if you are asked to provide a UK‑based guarantor. To help remove this barrier, the University of Bath supports eligible care leaver and estranged students through our partnership with Rent Guarantor.
The University will cover the full cost of the guarantor scheme fee for eligible students.
UK‑based guarantors
Before moving into private accommodation, most landlords or letting agencies will ask you to provide a UK‑based guarantor.
A guarantor is someone who agrees to pay your rent if you fall into arrears while studying at the University of Bath.
If you cannot provide a UK guarantor, you may be asked to pay a large amount, or even the full cost of your rent upfront.
Professional guarantor schemes are available to support students in this position, although these usually involve a fee.
Rent Guarantor
We recommend Rent Guarantor due to their competitive pricing and comprehensive tenant support.
University of Bath students are also eligible for an exclusive 7.5% promotional discount when using their services by applying the code BATH75.
If you are a care leaver or estranged student, the University will pay the fee associated with using the Rent Guarantor scheme, so you will not incur any cost for accessing this support.
