We provide additional support to help you fully access all aspects of your university experience. This support complements the reasonable adjustments to teaching, learning and assessment coordinated by the Disability Service, academic departments and the Academic Registry, and helps us support you across the wider student experience.
Academic and digital support
Assistive Technology
The Assistive Technology team can help you use and get specialist IT equipment and software to help increase your productivity and improve your access to technology.
They can loan devices and software, and can support you to understand how to make the most of assistive technology provided by the University or other routes (e.g. via Disabled Students Allowance).
The Library
The Library is able to provide specific support for students with a disability, and there is a specific self-referral form to access support as a disabled student.
Skills Centre
The Skills Centre works to enhance your academic and career prospects through our workshops, courses, self-access resources, tutorials and drop-in sessions.
Part of the Skills Centre, the Digital and Academic Skills team provide digital and academic skills support to all students.
Wellbeing and mental health support
Student Support Advice
The Student Support Advice team offers students help and advice on all welfare and wellbeing issues. Students can attend a drop-in appointment in-person, and disabled students can request remote support if they are unable to attend in person.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Service
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Service provide wellbeing and welfare advice and support to all students. This includes support via our Mental Health and Wellbeing team, our Therapeutic Service team, and range of different support groups, and a range of self-help resources.
Support for Doctoral students
The Doctoral Development team supports doctoral students to build a strong set of skills to succeed in doctorate course and enhance future career prospects through a range of workshops and events, online resources and development opportunities.
The Independent Advisor Service for Postgraduate Research Students is an independent advice service that is available for doctoral students to access throughout their studies and can help and support you in challenges that cannot be resolved at a department or school level.
Accommodation and campus life
If you have a disability or medical condition, we offer accommodation options designed to meet your needs. This can include adjustments for wheelchair usage or extra space for special equipment.

Financial support for students with additional accommodation requirements
If you have additional accommodation requirements as a result of a disability or medical condition, you may be eligible for financial support to help with the extra costs. Awards
Any awards offered will be paid directly to Student Accommodation to assist towards your accommodation costs. You will not receive a payment directly into your bank account. Awards will be made in 3 instalments per year (in line with your rent payments.
