How the SafeZone app works
The SafeZone app is available free to all students and staff at the University of Bath.
Downloading the SafeZone app
Downloading the SafeZone app is very easy.
If you own an Android device, you may install it from Googleplay.
If you have an iOS, you may download it from the App store.
Checking-in with your SafeZone app
Checking-in with the SafeZone app, whether for security reasons or to meet your academic engagement requirements as a visa holder, is very easy.
Read our instructions manual on how to do this.
Making the most of your SafeZone app
To make full use of all the features, we advise you allow location services on your device and stay ‘checked in’ while on campus or in University buildings. Your location is only visible when you are on University premises and checked in, or while you have an Alert active outside of these areas.
Even when you’re not on campus or in University buildings, SafeZone can provide useful location-based functionality, for example notifying you of accidents or emergencies in the local area.
Please note shared location data is deleted after 30 days. The exception to this is data collected for visa engagement compliance, which we are required to keep for longer by UK Visas & Immigration.
App power management settings
Some Android devices stop apps from running in the background in order to save battery life.
If SafeZone is stopped in this way, your device will stop updating us with information about your check-in. To avoid this happening, please change your Android power management settings to ‘do not optimise battery usage’.
Useful, screen-by-screen guidance on how to update your phone App Power Management settings (for different types of mobile phones) is available on the Don’t kill my app website.
